CARES Team

1. Commit to serving 70 hours per month (as a team) – up to 10 hours can be volunteer hours
2. Commit to serving for at least 18 months
3. Present the activity calendar by the 10th of each month for Management approval
4. Submit all vacation requests for Management approval. CARES Teams receive 2 weeks of vacation per calendar year. When vacation time is approved and taken, the hour commitment is reduced by the number of vacation hours taken.
5. Work within Management’s budget and budget process to plan and facilitate CARES activities

Apartment Life

1. Conduct a background, credit, and reference check on all CARES Teams
2. Recruit, train and supervise the CARES team placed in the community
3. Sign the apartment lease for the team; the team is listed as the occupant
4. Provide monthly activity reports to Management detailing services provided, hours spent, and resident participation
5. Help manage the CARES Team and ensure the program commitments are being met
6. Obtain satisfaction from Management and CARES Team. If Management is dissatisfied with the CARES Team performance and a satisfactory resolution cannot be found, Apartment Life will work with Management to transition to a new CARES Team.
7. Provide general liability insurance for the CARES Program and workers compensation for all CARES Teams. Specific coverage information is available upon request. Apartment Life’s fair housing and insurance guidelines do not allow CARES Teams to purchase or serve alcohol or to perform business functions such as office work, leasing, or maintenance.

Management Team

1. Provide final approval for placement of the CARES Team
2. Select common activities and services or request others based on the needs of the community
3. Schedule a minimal amount of time each month to meet with the CARES Team to approve the calendar, exchange ideas, and to review the budget
4. Provide team with weekly move-in list for Welcome Visits and renewal reports for Because We Care Visits
5. Provide all expenses and funds associated with CARES activities and services – teams are not permitted to use their own money to fund activities
6. Communicate with team about the budget and ensure that money is available based on discussion - a good rule of thumb for the budget is $1 per unit per month
7. Provide the team with a standard sized two-bedroom / two-bath apartment at no cost
8. Waive all deposits (except animal deposits) and application fees
9. Agree to pay Apartment Life a monthly fee of $495 – invoices will be sent to the community monthly

The CARES Program is provided for an 18 month renewable term and can be terminated at any time by either Management or Apartment Life with 30 days written notice.
