Frequently asked questions

We've Got Answers

Compensation, housing, schedules, family, and qualifications.

What do Apartment Life Coordinators do?

Coordinators help neighbors belong. They welcome new residents, plan and host gatherings, and care for residents and onsite staff in times of need. What that looks like depends on the community. In conventional communities, you might host monthly events and reach out to residents. In affordable housing, you might connect residents with resources and education. In active adult communities, you might lead weekly clubs and wellness activities. In build-to-rent neighborhoods, you might do outreach and build local partnerships. Specific responsibilities, hours, and duties are listed in each job description.

Is this a paid position?

Yes, in one of two ways. Onsite coordinators live at the community and pay 50% of standard rent, capped at $900/month, in exchange for their responsibilities (no monetary payment). Offsite coordinators keep living where they are and receive contracted hourly pay based on the hours they serve each month.

Do I have to move into the community?

Only for onsite positions. If you’re unable to move, you can still serve offsite: you’re paid to serve one or more apartment communities in your surrounding area, depending on availability.

How much time does it take? I already have a full-time job.

No worries! On average, an onsite coordinator serves about 12 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends with occasional daytime meetings. Offsite hours vary by community and are listed on each opening. Many coordinators serve alongside a full-time job. Onsite positions require a minimum service term of 2 years; offsite, 1 year.

Is this family friendly?

Yes! Many of our teams are families with kids. We recommend coming into the application process with a plan for childcare and building a support team so residents remain the focus of your events, and we welcome kids of all ages at programming. Not every program is open to children (some senior communities have age restrictions), so we’ll match you with the best community for your family.

What qualifications do I need?

You must be 18+, eligible to work in the U.S., and have basic English fluency, a valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation. Event planning, budgeting, and marketing experience are preferred.

What does it mean to be faith-based?

Apartment Life is a Christian, faith-based nonprofit founded on the belief that all people need love and community. Coordinators serve through hospitality, meaningful relationships, and practical care, reflecting our Christian mission while welcoming residents of every religious background.
